It is a question we get a lot: "Do you have an English camp near Madrid?" The honest answer has two parts. Our camps in Spain are multi-activity camps, and at some of them English can be added as an extra. If you want your child to be immersed in the language full time, that means going abroad: two schools in the United Kingdom, in July 2027. Here are both options, what each one includes and who each one makes sense for.
Why we do not call our camps in Spain "English camps"
A camp that calls itself an English camp should put the language at the centre of the day. Ours in Spain revolve around other things: sport, nature, workshops, evening activities and living together. At some of them English is one more activity you can choose, and we would rather say so than give the program a name its daily routine does not live up to.
In the August sessions for ages 6 to 12 (August at Layos and August in Gredos), though, we welcome proportionally more campers from other countries, so Spanish and English mix naturally in everyday camp life.
English classes as an extra
When you register for some of our camps, you can add a package of English classes in the same extras section where you choose the uniform or transport. In the website shop it appears as "English classes (8 hours)" and, for Gredos, as "Gredos English classes (8 hours)". That is eight hours of lessons during the camp, so they are best seen as extra support.
These are the camps that list English classes among their activities:
- LayosCamp Toledo, for ages 6 to 12. Sessions from 1 to 15 July 2027, from 16 to 30 July 2027 and from 1 to 15 August 2027.
- LayosCamp Toledo Junior, for ages 13 to 15, at the same site and with sessions on the same dates.
- Kids Camp Gredos, for ages 6 to 12, from 24 to 30 June 2027: one week in La Vera, near Cuacos de Yuste, designed for children leaving home for the first time.
That said, you will see which extras each session offers when you register, and registration for summer 2027 opens on 20 October 2026. If you would like to check beforehand for a particular session, write to us and we will tell you.
Near Madrid, and no need to drive them there
Our Toledo camp is 10 km from the city and 100 km from Madrid. Kids Camp Gredos is in La Vera, in Cáceres, at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos. Return transport from Madrid is included in all our programs: we ask families to meet us at a meeting point, and the children always travel with their counsellors. If you are coming from abroad, we also offer pick-up at the airport or station.
If you want immersion: two weeks in the UK
To be immersed in the language full time you have to leave Spain, and for that there are two programs at British schools in July 2027, for boys and girls aged 10 to 16. They are run by Anglo Connection, with a LayosCamp counsellor there 24 hours a day. You register directly with Anglo Connection: you ask us for information and we put you in touch with them.
Both run from 7 to 21 July 2027, two weeks with flights included:
- Rikkyo School in England, in Horsham. A modern independent school with tennis courts, football pitches, an athletics track, a dance studio, a sports hall and art and music studios, all within its grounds. Students stay in four boarding houses with rooms of different sizes.
- The Duke of York's Royal Military School, in Dover (Kent). An independent school with extensive sports facilities: a cricket pitch, rugby pitches, a swimming pool, a gym, an athletics track, a theatre and tennis courts. Rooms range from singles to rooms for four.
What both programs include
- Flights to London (Heathrow or Gatwick; for Duke of York's, Stansted as well).
- 13 nights' full-board accommodation.
- 15 hours of English a week, with class materials and a certificate of attendance at the end.
- Two full-day and two half-day excursions.
- Afternoon and evening activities.
- A LayosCamp counsellor 24 hours a day.
- Laundry and travel insurance.
What the classes are like
The day after they arrive, students take a placement test, and the groups are set from the results. Classes are mostly conversation and role play, with qualified native-speaker teachers. A typical morning starts with new material practised through speaking and writing, moves on to a group project on a topic that interests them and ends with a short play or a debate on current affairs.
Afternoons bring sport (basketball, football, tennis or volleyball, among others) and activities such as drama, singing, crafts or making videos. Evenings have their own activities. Excursions are led by English counsellors: from Horsham, for example, they visit London, Oxford, Brighton or Windsor; from Dover, London, Cambridge, Canterbury or Greenwich. These are some of the options and they may change.
Which one suits your child?
It depends on their age and on what you want from the summer.
- If they are under 10, or it will be their first time away from home, the sensible choice is a camp in Spain with English as an extra. Kids Camp Gredos is designed for exactly that first time away.
- If they want sport, friends and the outdoors, with English as a bonus, Toledo or Toledo Junior with the classes added.
- If they are between 10 and 16 and the language is the goal, immersion in the UK: fifteen hours of lessons a week and the rest of the day at a British school, with excursions led by English counsellors.
