If you live in Madrid and are looking for a summer camp in Toledo, the first thing you will want to know is where it is and how your child gets there. Ours is in Layos, 10 km from Toledo and about 100 km from Madrid, and we have been running camps for more than 40 years. We have two programs at the same location: one for children aged 6 to 12, and Toledo Junior, for boys and girls aged 13 to 15.
Where it is and how to get there from Madrid
The camp is in Layos, 10 km from Toledo. You do not need to drive your child there from Madrid: return transport is included in every session. We ask families to meet us at a meeting point, and the children always travel with their counsellors; we give you the exact meeting point and times after registration.
If you would rather take your child by car, you can: when you register, you choose how they get there and how they come back. Flying in, or coming by train? We pick them up at Barajas airport or at Atocha or Chamartín station. In July this is a separate service; in the first fortnight of August it is included.
The facilities
The facilities are our own, set in natural surroundings, with an Olympic-size swimming pool, a climbing wall, a riding arena, a sports hall, a football pitch and a zip wire, among other things.
What children aged 6 to 12 do
Groups are formed by age, in two bands: the Eagles, aged 6 to 9, and the Crows, aged 10 to 12. Each group has its own room counsellor and a program designed for its age, with six different activities a day plus trips out into the countryside. They include:
- Climbing, swimming and archery.
- Horse riding and golf.
- Football, basketball, tennis and padel.
- Canoeing and the farm.
- Arts and crafts, and drama.
Every day after dinner there are evening activities with games, and during the fortnight we hold the Olympics, with opening and closing ceremonies and a medal ceremony. The children eat with their room counsellor, and meals are made with top-quality ingredients, with menus designed for them and options for allergies and intolerances.
If your child wants more of something, when you register you can add extra hours of horse riding, golf, tennis or padel, or English classes.
Toledo Junior: the program for ages 13 to 15
Toledo Junior is for boys and girls aged 13 to 15. It shares the Layos facilities with the 6 to 12 camp but has its own program, with the pace and independence that suit that age: they go to bed later, help with the running of the camp (tidying the rooms, the laundry, laying the tables in the dining room) and take on more responsibility.
They do six activities a day, along with the Olympics and evening activities: climbing, swimming, horse riding, archery and rifle shooting, padel, tennis, golf, photography, drama or cooking, among others.
Whether a child moves up from the Crows to the Juniors depends on their age when the session starts: anyone who is already 13 on the first day goes to Toledo Junior, and anyone who turns 13 after it starts can choose between the Juniors and the Crows.
The 2027 sessions
Both programs run on the same dates:
- First fortnight of July: from 1 to 15 July 2027.
- Second fortnight of July: from 16 to 30 July 2027.
- August at Layos: from 1 to 15 August 2027.
August has its own pages, August at Layos and August at Layos · Junior, and its own reasons: the same service as in July, airport or station pick-up included if you are coming from abroad, and the minimum group guarantee set out in our Terms and Conditions. If an August session did not reach the minimum we need to run it properly, we let you know at least 30 days in advance and you choose between a full refund of everything you have paid or moving to another session. In the 6 to 12 session we also welcome proportionally more international campers in August.
Who looks after them
Our counsellors come from our own official counsellor school, which has been running since 1999, and for the summer sessions we only take on people who have worked with us before; many former campers now train there. Activities are led by counsellors from the school or by sports instructors, and as a family business there is always a member of the family in charge of the program.
There is a qualified lifeguard, and all children are covered by accident insurance. The nearest medical centre is less than 5 minutes away, and the hospital 15.
The practical side, briefly
- Full board with an afternoon snack, and daily laundry.
- Compulsory uniform: you order it when you register and it is handed out on the first day. Uniforms from previous years are fine.
- Their counsellor keeps their phone from the first day, and from the fourth day there is one hour of calls a day, to the camp phone or to their mobile.
- A small suitcase, please.
