How it works
Facilities and accommodation
Facilities include tennis courts, football pitches, an athletics track, a chapel, a dance studio and a sports hall, as well as modern laboratories and art and music studios, all set within the school's extensive grounds. Students are accommodated across four boarding houses, with rooms of different sizes. Laundry service once a week. On arrival, students leave a 30 £ deposit against damage, returned at the end of the stay if no damage has been caused to the facilities.
English lessons
The day after arrival, students sit a placement test so they can be grouped into classes. There are 15 hours of English a week, mostly conversation and role play, with qualified native teachers. At the end of the course every student receives a certificate of attendance.
A typical teaching day
- 09:00 – 10:00 The teacher introduces new content, reinforced through speaking, writing and role play
- 10:10 – 11:10 Group work on a project about a topic that interests the students
- 11:20 – 12:20 A short group play, or debates on current affairs
English Plus options
Football. Specialist coaching on some afternoons of the week, run by professional coaches. Available at extra cost.
Excursions
Two excursions a week with English counsellors. Half-day: Hever Castle, Brighton, Windsor and Guildford. Full-day: London, Oxford, Greenwich and Portsmouth. The excursions listed are some of the options available and those actually run may in some cases differ. If the group wants a specific excursion there may be a surcharge depending on distance and group size, and where entry to a venue is required it is charged separately.
Afternoon and evening activities
In the afternoon, a varied programme of changing sports — badminton, basketball, frisbee, football, hockey, table tennis, tennis, volleyball — and a carefully chosen range of non-sporting options: arts and crafts, drama, singing, video creation, origami or jewellery making, as well as visits to local attractions. In the evening there are discos, karaoke, blind date, talent shows, fashion shows, films, man hunt and many more.
Meals
Full English and continental breakfast. For lunch and dinner students always have a salad buffet and a choice of several hot dishes, including a vegetarian option, plus fruit. Special diets are available: please let us know well in advance.
