How it works
Facilities and accommodation
Its excellent sports facilities include a cricket pitch, several rugby pitches, a sports hall, a swimming pool, a gym, an assembly hall, an athletics track, a theatre and tennis courts. Students are accommodated in several buildings across the school grounds. Rooms range from single to two, three or four students. All the buildings are very well furnished and have a kitchen and generous common areas. On arrival, students leave a 30 £ deposit against damage, returned at the end of the stay if no damage has been caused to the facilities.
English lessons
The day after arrival, students sit a placement test so they can be grouped into classes. There are 15 hours of English a week, mostly conversation and role play, with qualified native teachers. At the end of the course every student receives a certificate of attendance.
A typical teaching day
- 09:00 – 10:00 The teacher introduces new content, reinforced through speaking, writing and role play
- 10:10 – 11:10 Group work on a project about a topic that interests the students
- 11:20 – 12:20 A short group play, or debates on current affairs
English Plus options
Horse riding, football and English. Students may choose supplementary lessons in these disciplines as an extra, subject to availability.
Excursions
Two excursions a week with English counsellors. Half-day: Canterbury and Dover. Full-day: London, Cambridge, Brighton and Greenwich. The excursions listed are some of the options available and those actually run may in some cases differ. If the group wants a specific excursion there may be a surcharge depending on distance and group size, and where entry to a venue is required it is charged separately.
Afternoon and evening activities
There is a wide range of changing sports on offer — badminton, basketball, frisbee, football, hockey, table tennis, tennis, volleyball — and a carefully chosen range of non-sporting options: arts and crafts, drama, singing, video creation, origami or jewellery making. On some afternoons there are visits to nearby landmarks or villages. After dinner: discos, karaoke, blind date, talent shows, fashion shows, films, treasure hunts, team games and many more, always led by English counsellors.
Meals
Full English and continental breakfast. For lunch and dinner students always have a salad buffet and a choice of several hot dishes, including a vegetarian option, plus fruit. Special diets are available: please let us know well in advance.
